Q: What type of lighting should I install in an Office area?
A: Fluorescent lighting, T-8 Series, with electronic ballasts provide the best lighting and are also very energy efficient.

Q: During the heating season, should I use programable thermostats?
A: Absolutely, for night and weekend setbacks particularly. A 6-8 degree turndown is optimal for maximum energy savings.

Q: I have a very small office with 5-10 employees. What are my "big hitters" relative to energy usage?
A: Laser printers, lighting, dehumidifiers, and office cooling typically are the biggest electric loads.

Q: If I leave my office or business for a few minutes should I turn lights off or leave them on? Will it cost me more to restart when I return?
A: Unlike some motors, when your not in your office, turn lights off. Motion sensors are a great solution.

Q: Gas prices rose significantlly last winter. If that continues, is there much difference to heat with natural gas or electric?
A: In comparing last winter and end of August 2001 gas supply prices, it is approximately a 3:1 difference in favor of natural gas. This was based on a 100,000 BTU heating load.

Q: Does the amount of windows in my building have an effect on my heating and cooling costs?
A: Absolutely, solar gain and air infiltration can increase significantly based on a large square footage of window wall with poor seals.
